Happy Australia Day

Happy Australia Day everyone!

We have just returned from a very awesome day at the Newman Aquatic Centre. The East Pilbara Shire opened the pool to the public and had tattoos and flags for the kids; a really good local band; a free sausage sizzle for lunch; and the slides out in the pool. I think the Shire did a fantastic job managing the crowd of people and the Australian doo they put on today. The party goes until 5 this afternoon and then commences again with fireworks at 8. I think we are so lucky to have such a great event in such a remote part of the northern west of Australia. Well done Pilbara Shire!

Our local Newman resident that received Australian of the Year was our fantastic Doctor - Doctor Leslie Green. So well deserved. Dr Green has been in Newman for 19 years now, he saids. He goes beyond his work too, sometimes staying back to late hours of the night to ring his patients personally to give them test results - we know this because he has done this for us on numerous occasions and we have only lived here for 3.5 years so I can only imagine what he has done for other patients. He has certainly been a life saver for several of our friends and family members. If only there were more Doctors out there like Doctor Green that dedicated their lives to medicine in remote areas of Australia.

Tomorrow is a changing chapter for our family - but a positive one. I start full time employment again as an Environmental Advisor for BHP. I am really looking forward to full time work again and it has just come at a time when it is perfect for our family as a whole. It has been nearly 4 years since I last worked full time. I am really looking forward to the challenges and rewards that the job will bring. And despite my busy schedule - i am still hoping to maintain our busy family life with sports; committees; business and of course - scrapbooking!

Enough chatter - here are some layouts to share...
The layout below is for a challenge for Inspired Blueprints - Sketch 40.
I used papers from Kaiser Craft; felt from Blue Eye Dezines; rubons from Maya Road; flowers from Kaiser and Green Tara; bling from Prima; & trimmings from German Scrap & miscellaneous.

Another Kaiser layout below. This layout used kaiser papers; letters from Creative Imaginations and Heidi Swapp; silver ink; flowers from Prima & Green Tara; miscellaneous dress pins; pearls from Prima & Kaiser; butterfly embellishment from Prima.
The layout below is of my best bud getting married March last year. For this layout i used Burnt Red glimmer mist and a Basic Grey doilie sheet as a mask; papers from Basic Grey, Sassafras Lass & Cosmo Cricket; stickers from Cosmos Cricket and Basic Grey & Chipboard from Cosmo Cricket.
The following layout is some old photos of the day Seekara was christened in Wanneroo, Perth. For this layout I used papers from My Minds Eye & Hamble Screenprints; chipboard from Collections; Cuttlebug embossing folder; stitching with sewing machine; miscellaneous buttons; bling from Prima and Kaiser; flowers from Prima and Kaiser; brad from Making Memories; glimmer mist; embellishments from Prima; and trimming from Webster's.
The next layout also features on our Rtlicious blog site as Challenge #4. For this layout I kept it very simple to obtain my 30 minute deadline to complete my page using Basic Grey everything (except for the journal tag which was My Little Shoebox)!

Well nap time for the little one is over - better go to attend to her.

365 well under way

Last night we had our first official 365 meeting at RTlicious. It was great to get all inspired by the other ladies and to see everyone rearing to go. Some of the participants are completely new to the 365 whilst others are going for the second time round but taking different approaches to see if they can make it even easier or even more creative than 2009. I am so far really enjoying my 365 and making sure I embrace my word for the year - SAVE! Save the memories and save money by using all my scraps!
After finally getting some sort of of organisation into our house after being away the previous week, I have finally managed to get a few layouts done! YEAY! So here's to sharing...

The recipe stand below is something i did up for a Christmas gift swap for our quilting group. I used a Twiddleybitz stand and decorated it with Basic Grey paper, blue paint and Kaiser pearls - easy peasy.
This layout below is very retro - I used Sassafras & Kaiser papers; miscellaneous buttons; Basic Grey & October Afternoon letters; and die cut flowers from Sassafras.
This next layout is made using prestitched paper from Prima - beautiful papers! I also used flowers from Prima; bling from Prima and Kaiser; German scrap; letters from American Crafts * Basic Grey; journalling block & die cuts from My Little Shoebox.
The following layout is using papers from Sassafras; letters from Basic Grey; embellishments from Sassafras; & the painted background was using Lyra crayons and an aqua pen.
I wanted to embrace the red colours in the next layout so I used papers from Sassafras; stickers from Basic Grey (new Sugar Rush); flowers from KI Memories; letters from Websters and Heidi Swapp; rubons from Urban Lily, Amercian Crafts, Basic Grey, kaiser and Hambly; transparency from hambly; chipboard and diecuts from Sassafras & Basic Grey; and pearls from Kaiser.
The next layout is also displayed on the RTlicious blogspot (www.rtlicious.blogspot.com) as our Week 4 challenge - create a layout inspired by media. See the ewebsite for further details.
I used Basic Grey papers fro this layout as well as rubons from Basic Grey; chipboard from basic Grey; and bling from Kaiser.Tea Party! This layout was made using the exciting and romantic new range from Basic Grey. To create this layout I used papers from Basic Grey & Sassafras; letters from Basic Grey; stickers from Sassafras and Basic Grey; miscellaneous buttons; ribbons from making memories and Websters; rubons and chipboard from Basic Grey (nook and Pantry and sugar rush); and bling from Kaiser.
Yesterday we completed a card class using some of the exquisite stamps and montages from darkroom door. We also used some Glimmer mist and glimmer screens, transparencies, distressed inks and Kaiser bling. Was lots of fun.
Darkroom door stamps and montages are of course available in store and to order from RTlicious. Well best I get stuck into some more housework.
Enjoy your week

Hello Again

Well I am sorry i have been a naughty blogger and been a little absent - my cousin got married last week at Burns Beach followed by the reception at Mindarie Marina, in Perth's northern suburbs. The wedding was lovely, the bride looked gorgeous and it is always good to see all the family. Our girls had such a great time and Seekara just danced everyone off their feet - she sure loves weddings this girl!

Left to right: Zoe, Rhiannon (the bride), me, Wendy and Seekara in the front as the flower girl

My gorgeous girls all dressed up - and Cheekah managed to stay clean most of the night! I Love beach sand!

We then got to see one of my closest friends first newborn - Madeline. She is such a cutie. It was just lucky that she was over from Canberra the same time as we were down for the wedding. We had a lovely evening with their family and our close friends in her parents' beautiful home in Singleton.

Proud mum Robin, Surrogate Aunt Tenaha and little Maddie - what a cutie!

On Monday we also got to see our nephew, Darryl's sister and brother law. We had not seen them for 4 years. It was also the first time they meet our little Cheekah. The kids had an awesome time at the Perth Zoo. Seekara still is fascinated by snakes and had to buy an ugly cobra head with a moving jaw - bless her.

Trans-Tasman cousins - Baxter and our girls
As for some scrapping.....
Please check out the http://www.rtlicious.blogspot.com/ site for our latest challenge. Loads of fun.
Here are a few other layouts I have done recently...

Love these papers from Cosmo Cricket- Love the Earth! Papers from Cosmo Cricket; trim from Websters; Flowers from kaiser; kindyglitz; rubons from Cosmo & Basic Grey; Letters from Basic Grey; journal tag from Making Memories; pearls from Kaiser; & Sticker from Creative Imaginations.

Discovery layout used papers from Sassafras lass; letters from Basic Grey; flowers from Green Tara and Prima; bling from Kaiser; small letters from Carolees Creations; & stickers from Basic Grey and Sassafrass Lass.

Friends layout using papers from Kaiser Craft, Bazzil and Collage Press; stickers from K & Co; transparency from Hambly; flowers from Kaiser and Prima; die cuts from Basic Grey; & bling from Kaiser.

Well lots of scrapping to catch up with.

Have a good weekend

The New 365

I have made an ode to myself this year for my 365 - not to spend a cent on it. I want to capture the memories but without it costing anything and I want to use all my scraps. I have so much I need to use it and what better way. Plus I am sure I will still a mountain on my normal scrapping!

Our eldest girl Seekara wanted to do a 365 this year so I bought her a little journal and she is going to draw a picture in it each day of what her day was like and then we can write the story together - had to keep it fun and simple for a 5 year old. Her first day was hilarious - she drew her sister with her head stuck in the dollhouse - yes Cheekah did do that. Gave us all a big fright.

Here is a sneak peek at my first entry for the 365 and the cover. I used the 365 book from Kikki-k.

I love the new Nook and Pantry range from Basic Grey. Here's what I have been playing with....

Well I am off tomorrow for a week in Perth. My cousin Rhiannon is getting married and we have a mountain of things to do in Perth so it is going to be a whirlwind of a week. We also get to meet one of my closest friends new baby girl (over from Canberra),catch up with my husbands sister and family over from NZ and catch up with family that have still not seen Cheekah (now 18 months old). SO we will be exhausted when we return but it should be a good week.
Hope your week is awesome!
Tenaha ;)
