We will Remember

In 2001, 4 police officers died when their plane crashed just moments from the Newman airstrip. It shook the town and certianly the police offciers' families and colleagues. It was the biggest tragedy in WA Police history.

Each year now, Newman gets together to welcome back the families of the officers and raise funds for Police Legacy and those families that have lost a loved one in the line of duty. The morning starts with a ceremony to honour the police officers. The ceremony was certainly moving and makes you think about the tragic loss of life and the spirit of these officers. 8 years on and the loss of these officers still hits hard to the families and the Newman community. The location of the tragedy depicts just how tragic the accident was - so so close to making it home. It seems totally unfair.

This is the first year I have been invovled in the "Bloody Slow" Cup - the rugby game established with the Aussies v. Kiwis to raise funds for Police Legacy. 2009 is the inaugral year of the Juniors and Seniors Netball games. As players we have been invlolved with members helping organisation of the events and particaption such as radio shows, raffle ticket sales, and helping with the cleanup for the site ceremony. I was fortunate enough and certainly proud to be part of the Australian Netball Senior team. What a game it was. I honestly did not expect the support we recieved. The Newman Rec Centre was filled with a sea of Black and White to the left and Green and Gold top the right of the stadium ,and they all cheered so hard I could hardly hear the umpires.

The Juniors got the ball running with a fantastic win over the Junior Kiwis. They played awesome and certianly gave us inpsiration to get out there abnd give the same commitment to winning the game.

Geoff Stweart, our head police officer in town, had given all the senior rugby and netball palyres a speech on Thursday night which really hit home to us all - to make sure we all give the same type of spirit and commitment to the game as these police officers did in their job. I definitely think it inspired us all.

In the Seniors netball game, we trailed three quarter time, and at one stage were 4 points down in the final quarter. We lifted though, and ended up drawing the game with the New Zealand team. A fitting start, I say, with a draw to start the inaugral season. This will hopefully mean even more supporters in 2010 and hence more money raised towards police legacy.

We were very fortunate to have in our team a family member affected by the tragedy in 2001 - Debbie Ruland. We also had an ex-Newman police officer come ckto town to play in our team so it meant a lot to us to have these girls on board and kept us focussed on what the game was all about. It wasnt about an Australian v New Zealand game - it was about putting everything into the game that you could to show that level of commitment those officers did. To show true spirit and make spectators want to come back for more next year. I think both sides showed that on the day.

Later that evening there were other matches such as the Mixed & Womens Touch games and the junior rugby team v. Bayswater. This was followed by the all awaited seniors game. The Kiwis had dominated the game for several years but it was to be Australia's Day with the Seniors bringing it home for the Aussies in the final part of the game. The evening then proceeded int celebrations with music from the police Commissioner's band - The Filth - it was a fantastic evening and I am sure all the events raised lots of funds for Police Legacy and helped the families of the tragedy remember that they will always have the support of the Newman community. Well done to everyone invloved in the weekend.

Yes I am getting into the spirit of Christmas very early - I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! I wanted to get started on some personally made ornaments so I made this matchbox from Tags and Boxes on the Criuct and used papers to decorate it from Basic Grey. I also used an image from Collections that I modified to stage my daughters. Other elements include chipboard, papers and embelishments from Basic Grey.

The layout above was made using papers from Basic Gery Porcelain; stickers from Websters; German Scrap; letters from Jenni Bowlin and Basic Grey; and rubons from My Minds Eye.

Today I am feeling extremely exhausted from the huge week and looking forward to the new week appraoching - hopefully this will be a quiet week!

More Websters

I have been slowly getting through my Dec '08 stash of photos. I am now ten months behind but it actually does not worry me. I hear a lot of people saying how they like to be to date but for me I prefer to dawdle through and just enjoy the process. I keep a diary too and also take a daily photo as part of my 365 Album so keeping records of what happens daily is already done and therefore it doesn't matter if I don't scrap them until ten months down the track. Plus I love having the freedom of having more photos to chose from when that PERFECT NEW PAPER is released. Everyone has their own method - its just finding what works for you. There is no right or wrong - the only rule is to enjoy the process!

Recently i had gone a little crazy with the new Websters papers and have several other papers sitting there waiting to be used. I hate not using them so I sat there the other week and matched all my photos for Dec 08 to my new papers so I make sure I end up using them.

The layout below was made using papers from K & Co, Little Yellow Bicycle & Websters; letters from Jenni Bowlin & Basic Grey; Flowers from Prima; bling & small flowers from kaiser; & rubons from Basic Grey.

I love the photo below of Cheekah. Renee Smithers had bought this hat for Cheekah and I thought she looked so adorable in it. I have made this layout using papers from Websters; German Scrap; Distressed Ink; Prima Flowers; Kaiser rubons; Kaiser bling strips; Basic Grey letters & Kaiser brads. Trimmings from Making Memories.

For something a little different - I love this pic of Cheekah last year. So peaceful and quiet asleep on the beach near Pint Sampson last year. Point Sampson is a little piece of paradise up ion the north west coast of WA, east of Karratha. We spent a weekend there last year and had an awesome time.

I used predominately kaiser papers in this page with the Bushka range - so beautiful and bright! I also used the felt bird from Jenni Bowlin; Kaiser flowers; Kaiser rubons; Scenic Route & Cosmos Cricket paper; Basic Grey sticker & letters from American Crafts.

Versatile Webster's Papers

I have had so much fun playing with the new stuff we have had come in over the past few weeks at Rtlicious. Websters, Prima and Basic Grey's new Christmas Range are so beautiful.


We have had a lot of people come in and say - Wow those Webster's papers are nice whilst others have said its just not them - well have you checked out the reverse side of these papers then? They are usually more patterned and therefore can appeal to a whole different audience.

Now, I am not really a shabby chic type of girl. Its not that I don't like Websters papers - because they are so very beautiful, but I find that the floral side of the papers is just not me. Whilst most people tend to go for the beautiful floral side of the papers, I love the patterns usually found on the reverse side of Websters papers. So that way, I guess you can say that Websters really does accommodate to a wide range of scrappers and paper crafters.

If you want some inspiration for the normal side of the papers with the beautiful floral prints - definitely check out Rhonda's and Tracy's gorgeous work on their blogs (see links on bottom menu). But if patterns are more your alley then I guess that is more me - also check out some of the work by Adele (RTlicious Design Team Member) in at RTlicious.

Below is a layout I did of little Chekkahboo on her Christening Day last year. I used papers by Websters; K & Co, My Mind's Eye & Jenni Bowlin; Embellishments by Prima (flowers), Tattered Angels (large butterfly chip), Making Memories (buttons and journal card) & Kaiser (pearls); and letters by Collections. I also used Silver Glimmer Mist.

The next three layouts are made using part of October's new Monthly Challenge Kit - Jungle Bungle. This challenge kit is made up of delightfully bright colours from Sassafrass. And don't be fooled by the papers - these are just not of kids layouts. These would be great for funny adults and teens pages and even your nature and pet photos. You don't have to have children photos to use this range.

The page below was made using papers from Bazzil & Sassafras; embellishments by Sassafrass (chipboard and journal tags); letters from Basic Grey & Jenni Bowlin; Bling by kaiser; buttons from making Memories; & I cut out the sun and sprocket like shapes using Accent Essentials on the Cricut.

The layout below was made using papers from Sassafrass & Bazzil; flowers, chipboard, stickers and journal tags from Sassafras; and trimming from Websters.

The "Wild Child" layout is made from papers from Bazzil & Sassafrass; flowers and chipboard shapes from Sassafras; & the letters from Carolee's Creations and using the packaging from the Sassafrass flower embellishments on the Cricut (Hannah Montanna).

Making Christmas Treats was made using the New Basic Grey range in RTlicious now. This range is so cute - Eskimo Kisses. I have also used papers & stickers from Cosmo Cricket; chipboard from Basic Grey; alphabet letters from Carollee's Creations and BASIC Grey; and stickers from Sassafras. loving the gorgeous natural smooth bazzil in my layouts lately. Very nice - see it is at RTlicious.

I'm back.....

I have not blogged for a few weeks as I have been away from my beloved computer and went to Perth with the family. It was very nice to catch up with my Perth based family and I had some fantastic retail therapy and cant wait to just have an excuse to wear my new clothes and shoes anywhere I can in Newman - can someone please have a cocktail PARTY!

I had big withdrawals from scrapping though. I took quite a few layouts to do but we were so exhausted each night all I could do was sleep each night. We were all sick the entire time in Perth but we still managed to get all our "Perth List" done and spend some time with our family so that was a positive. My grandparents also got to spend some time with the girls - they are totally smitten over both of them. And it was great to catch up with my little bro and sis n law to see their new house being built (very exciting) and we all went to the show together also. My fave part was the wood chopping competition. I never had seen anything like this before and thought it was awesome the way these guys chop wood! Seekara and I also got to go and do some bridesmaids duties with my cousin Rhiannon which was lots of fun. We managed to get a dress for both of the girls - cant wait to see them so dressed up in Jan. Cant believe my little cuz is getting married in three months time! Where did the time go. Anyways - enough of the babbling... here are some of my recent projects..

I completed this little menu planner as part of an online class i did with Sisters in Style. I just added my own bright colours to it and it a bit more user friendly as something i would use. I have made it into a recipe folder in which I can write any items for a shopping list, plan a weekly menu and make little notes. It is nice and small too so i can fit it in my handbag and take shopping with me. I love LISTS (a trait I definitely got from my mother!) So this little folder is ideal for me.

To make the menu planner i used predominantly Cosmos Cricket papers, Kaiser flowers, miscellaneous ribbons and cereal packet cardboard! Love reusing packet items. Free and just the right thickness.

This layout above was also made using Cosmo Cricket papers - available very soon in RTlicious. I also used readily available papers in now from Sassafrass and Basic Grey (June Bug). Stickers were from June Bug also and bling from Kaiser. Letters from BASIC grey and American Crafts.

This layout was made using Basic Grey Lemonade papers, rubons and stickers; Euphoria chipboard; Kaiser bling & Green Tara flowers.

The layout below was made using the new kaiser Penny Royale papers. We had a class on this last Friday and still have some kits available. The letters were cut from cereal packet cardboard and covered in Penny Royale papers using the Hannah Montana cartridge. I know most people would not even look at this cartridge but it is awesome. It has six fantastic fonts in it plus other items that will get a lot of use. My new fave font Cricut cartrdige! I also used Green Tara flowers, My minds Eye rubons, a Maya Road Chipboard heart, texture paste, a "I Love you" stamp fro Autumn Leaves & tiny little buttons available in various colours at RTlicious.

Must go and create - I am having withdrawals and need to get into it again!

New layouts from Adele and I

Today we went to a birthday party for Seekara's close friend Hope. Seekara and I usually make our presents for friends. Yesterday we made this together for Hope. The monogram letter from kaiser was embellished with stickers and Chipboard by Basic Grey - Euphoria, Collections circle, glimmer mist, Green tara flower, Doodlebug bling. Below is a layout of my husbands progress last year with his shed. I got the idea for leftover stickers from Elizabeth Kartchner and wanted to use left over sticker to embellish acetate and sew around the. I like how the circles turned out and now I am keen to cut down on my leftover sticker stash by making lots of embellishments like this. Other elements on the page below include basic Grey alphabets, Pink Paisley paper, Collections small stars, Love Elsie arrow, Basic Grey stickers and Flair Designs alphabet stickers, acetate.

This layout above, was made using some of the new My Minds Eye Range - Breaking Free. Other elements include Autumn leaves felt, Kaiser flowers, Basic Grey Chipboard, Sassafrass paper, butterfly Cuttlebug die, October Afternoon alphabet rubons, Kasier bling and handmade circle posie made by Nanna. I have had it sitting in a whole heap of sewing stuff that my nanna had given quite a few years back and thought what better use than to incorporate into one of my pages.

I love My little Shoebox designs and I loved these cute little houses on one of their papers. I have made this into a card with some kaiser pearls and Basic Grey rubons added also.

Little Cheekah at 5 months - trying so hard to move. I love these cute little pics. It makes me think how fast this year has gone and how Dec is sneaking upon us again. This page was made using Little Shoebox papers, K & Co ribbon lace, Green Tara flower, Sassafrass felt bird, Heidi Swapp letters & October Afternoon rubons. Hint - Noticed I have made the m in "Moving" from to upside down "U"s and the letter N in Moving also - there are lots of letters that can be converted to replace other letters.

I wanted to share with you some of the layouts Adele Waldron had recently completed. Adele is on our design team and a great friend of mine. I love Adele's clean style when she scrapbooks - her pages always look great, although it is quite hard to convince her that they are great. Here are some layouts Adele has done with the Kaiser Loire Valley range - very nice. And a card!

Creating with the Newman Girl Guides

On the weekend Rhonda and I had a craft session with the Girl Guides as part of their activities for their annual sleepover event. We had 19 girls aged 5 and up and they created some lovely stuff. Amongst the girls, they made some lovely bird houses, handbags, tissue boxes and mirrors. The girls were all very creative and very polite.

Suzie and Ali had stayed with the girls over night and I must say they do such a wonderful job with the guides here in Newman. If it wasn't for their great work and volunteering there would be no Girl Guides in Newman. It is all because of people like this that we have so many opportunities for our children here in Newman. Now what I have I been up to this week?
I have again been taking the opportunity to use Websters trims (love them!!!) and Sassafras flowers where I can. I have used them on the Christmas layout below. The photo was taken last year at the Newman Daycare Christmas party. The photo of Cheekah was taken by the very talented Anita Lorimer. Thanks Anita - I love this photo.
Other products used in this layout were - Papers from Basic Grey & Creative Imaginations; circle punch; Fiskars Apron lace punch; Sassafras layered flowers; Making memories buttons; Websters red p[om pom trim; Carolee's Creations alphabet stickers; and Basic Grey Chocolate Chip Alphabet.

The layout below was made with a bit of experimentation sewing and ripping papers. I also used on this page - Basic Grey papers, embellishments and alphabets (lemonade range); and ink.

The following layout was made using a kit from the latest version of the Digital Artist Scrapbooking magazine i recently bought online. The magazine had heaps of free kits and it was fun learning new digital skills and creating this layout of my daughter, which I scraplifted the idea from the magazine. I love how it turned out and once i have a little more confidence in it I cant wiat to start exploring a little more...

The layout below was used in a recent layout class. The layout was made using papers from Sassafras Lass (Vintage Yummy); ribbon from American Crafts; staples; Glimmer mist in Burnt Red; Basic Grey rubons (Sugared).

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the special Dads out there. A big happy Father's Day to my Daddy dearest in Kal, my Pop in Perth and my wonderful husband Darryl. We spent the morning pretty much chilling which was really nice - for once. Darryl cooked a lovely BBQ breakfast - YUM! I am sure the day would have been much better for Darryl if his beloved Collingwood could have won their game! Well done Collywobbles - lets hope they find a pie warmer before the next game against the Crows!

Seekara had her first ever sports carnival on Friday. The kindy kids had just one race - the 25m sprint. They were all so adorable with their starting poses. Seekara came a very close second in her race - and she was so very proud to be wearing her ribbon. She could have come last and she would still have been gleaming from ear to ear. She spent the whole time down the track smiling. I was so proud of her, and i am sure all the parents were extremely proud of their kids - they all did such a great job. The Principal, teachers and volunteers for the day all did a terrific job too - the focus at South Newman is participation and not winning. The Principal pretty much called every one's name over the lines as they raced in and all the crowd cheered first to last - it was a great morning.

Doing the layout below this week reminds me of how much has happened this year and how quick it has gone - its nearly Christmas again! I am currently working out what to get everyone this year. I have been slack this year though - I usually start organising it all in July during all the mid year sales. Its so hard to work out what to get the daughter #2. Any suggestions please!!!???

The Christmas layout below was made using Basic Grey Wassail papers and embellishments, Chocolate chip alphabet stickers from Basic Grey, Paper from Scenic Route and bling from Kaiser. A nice simple card below. I put this together with some scraps from my 1st layout. Papers, rubon, flowers and pearls from kaiser, Flower embellishment from Melissa Frances.The "Adorable" layout was put together with Kaiser papers, Making Memories ribbon, My Minds Eye diecut, Creative imaginations chipboard, My Minds Eye transparency, and Blue Eye Dezines felt. The photo was taken by the very talented Tracy Monaghan who is sadly moving on soon. The layout below "Achieve" was put together using papers from the Basic grey Lemonade range, Basic Grey alphabet stickers, Fiskars Treading Water punch, Green Tara flower, Websters lace and Basic grey embellishments. This photo was taken last Nov when Rhonda and I won the Home Based - Small Business Award from the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We were so proud!
